Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Planners tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
