Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
