A fatal train derailment in the Mexican state of Oaxaca has caused the fatalities of at least 13 people, an incident likely to revive critical opposition regarding the speed and handling of the country's flagship government projects.
The accident happened on the Interoceanic Corridor train, a route built to link the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean across the narrowest part of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This endeavor was created to offer an competing rail corridor to the Panama Canal, with the goal of spurring regional growth in the area.
“We are going to meticulously determine the cause of this tragedy,” affirmed the head of state.
The president reported that, of the approximately 250 individuals on board, another 98 were wounded, with five of those in critical condition. The leader added plans to go to Oaxaca to speak with those involved.
